Frank continues where he left off!
It’s 2013 and the first event has now come and gone. The event took place at Bransford Golf Club in Worcestershire. The last time the CGS visited this course was in 2011 for the final event. On that occasion the event was won by former CGS member Rucha Ford who knocked it round for 41 points.
The weather was reasonable for the time of the year with the sun making a warm appearance. It was an encouraging day for our first event which was attended by 24 members and 3 guests who turned up to kick start the new season.
The Fix-Up trophy was up for grabs along with the usual long drive and nearest the pin prizes. The 3 guests attending where Cecil Richards, Barry Smith and Owen Mendez., all thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next one.
The course wasn’t in the best condition and this was reflected in the scores. Par for the course is 72 however the difficulty experienced by all put the CSS to 74 with 34 stable ford points setting the par for the day.
Unlike the 41 points posted by Rhucha in 2011 the winning score was 37 points and that was posted by Frank McCook. Frank finished the 2012 season by winning the final event and also the Order of Merit and now he’s started this season with a win. It’s two years in a row where the Coventry boys have won the opening event. Last season it was Bob Dhammi who got his name on the Fix-Up trophy and now Frank has done the same. It looks like the better golf is coming from Coventry; they must be doing something right down there. We all have to work extra hard now to prevent Frank from being the first to retain the Order of Merit title. Congratulations Frank, you posted a number that was better than the rest and that’s all you can do!
In runner-up spot was last year’s winner Bob Dhammi with 35 points the other man from Coventry and Third place on count back was Roan McLeod with 34 points traveling down from Bristol.
Nearest the pin also went to Bob and longest drive was collected yet again by Ian Higgins whose mantle must be at breaking point with all those long drive trophies.
Thanks to Bransford for having your hospitality and we look forward to returning, during warmer times.
