We began the day with unwelcome news that Lloyd “Bugsy” Thomas was in hospital with a suspected heart attack our thoughts were with him and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Emmanuel said winning today was sweet, having achieved a second place the previous day at his Club event where he had lost out on count back.
The 2010 season had started slowly for him but was now looking a lot rosier. He also claims a place on the Carib-Morris team in September and moves up the 2010 OOM Table. His playing partners included 2009 OOM Winner Eric Queely and Winston McLean who also played steady golf but were unable to bridge the gap. Mary Riley returned the same score of 40 Stableford points missing out on a win on count back. With a score of 39 points and third place was Linton Bell who could have easily won had he not played the wrong ball twice in two holes and put another OOB.
The combination of stiff winds and an open and exposed landscape provided the field with a stern test. The links like course with an abundance of strategically placed bunkers made the front nine a real challenge with water in play on the back nine to really focus the mind. Stoneleigh Winner Keith Salmon playing alongside Mickey Taylor, Alan Ferguson and Tony Sealy and were managing the front nine well but found too much water on the back. Alan Ferguson played some steady solid golf to keep his ball in play all day.
Roan McLeod hit another lovely tee shot on blind 17th to win the longest drive with Linton Bell not very far behind and Ian Higgins longer but a foot off the fairway. Nearest the Pin was claimed by Nat Burrows who managed to negotiate a very challenging hole not due to length but very much wind affected. Steve Mullins also produced a very solid round to move up the table after a poor start to the season.
Ronald Ross also mounted a good challenge and is playing some solid golf, must all those lessons he’s been receiving in Jamaica.12 Year old Jermaine Pennant-Douglas played his second round with the CGS and has earned a nomination from Chair Earl Harris to become the First Junior CGS Member, welcome aboard young man.
The Par 3 Competition due to be played on 27th June was canceled. There will be another event taking place at The Forest of Arden on Tuesday 31st August with the par 3 qualifiers representing the CGS.
The season is moving into the interesting zone where moves will be made from below the radar and those at the top will be looking behind them and hoping they make it to the finishing line in one piece.
