Big Dean Wins His Second Major Event
Well for the week running up to this event the weather set in and nearly forced the CGS to call off our 5th Major event of the year due to a severely water logged Isaak Walton Golf Course.
The course was closed for several days the week before and it was touch and go weather (no pun intended) the event would happen at all, luckily the heavens ceased to drop rain and the clouds subsided and the sun rescued the event and we were all able to enjoy the golf in the end.
The course was still carrying the scares of the couple of weeks of deluge but was playable and indeed bar one or two holes was in great condition considering the circumstances.
The course offered up a stern challenge for all levels of golfer and the tee shots had to be good to avoid losing balls in the long rough and baby fern trees that lined the tree hugged fairways of Isaak Walton golf course.
With this in mind the whole field struggled to play to their respective handicaps hence the winning score posted by Dean Leith was 34 stableford points. This was big Deans second CGS Major win and it was a hard fought victory for Dean who just snatched the W from Ansel Pottinger who also recorded 34 stableford points but lost on count back. Well done to Dean and indeed Ansel for finishing 1st and 2nd respectively and a shout also goes out to our Treasure Linton Bell for claiming 3rd place with a haul of 32 points, Congratulations to all the winners.
Longest drive was won by our handicap secretary Roan McLeod with a monstrous drive he faded in from left to right that just crept back into the fairway, well done Roan.
Nearest the pin was claimed by Frank McCook on the Par 3 14th hole aided by a good bounce on the back of the bunker on the left and he also went on to sink the put for a birdie well done Frank.
The last prize on the day was claimed by Trevor Lammy with a good drive and approach shot he claimed the nearest the pin in two well done Trevor.
A good day was enjoyed by all with plenty of banter in the club house after the golf. A shout goes out to Tony Brown who attended as a guest, if Tony would have joined he too would have been in the prizes, well you have to be in it to win it Tony!
