Yes Frank!
On this our second visit everyone was hoping for better conditions. With an early scare of a repeat of last year the weather eventually improved to provide excellent playing conditions for the 26 competitors.
The course was in excellent conditions with fast undulating greens and some very tricky pin positions. Some said they must have had a member’s competition the day before because those pin positions were tough.
Swindon is a quality golf course, you must respect its layout and plot your way round. Emmanuel Sylva had done is homework in preparing to play this course. He’d studied the course layout online and prepared his own course notes. With range finder in hand and course notes in his pink pockets, the only thing missing was his game. A poor start to his round would result in his lowest score this year.
At the start of the day Frank McCook discussed how it would be nice to get into the CGS team for the Carib-Morris Cup and how his friend Bob Dhammi had already booked his place. Little did he know that by the end of the day he to would be in the team. Congratulations to Frank on his first win with the CGS, your 36 points was enough to beat last years winner Ronald Ross, who could only manage 34 points.
Linton Bell has showed some consistent game recently and that was reflected in his third place with 32 points. Any points in the 30’s can be considered a good score.
Bob Dhammi started his round well, but a few missed putts early on slowed down his progress and would eventual hurt his chances of taking his second winners trophy of the season.
A mention for Nigel Harris who braved the early conditions traveling down from Bolton! Also former CGS member and now resident in Jamaica was Trevor Lewis. Trevor has been keeping in touch with the progress of the CGS via our website. It shows how far and wide the name of the Caribbean Golf Society has traveled.
Longest Drive winner went to Frank McCook, another trophy on the day for Frank. Nearest the pin went to George Oliver on the 17th he also birdied the hole. Nearest the pin in two was held on the 18th hole and that prize went to Eric Queely.
Thanks to the staff at Swindon who had their fingers crossed for the CGS considering the conditions we had last year.
