Keith Salmon takes it by a point at Cleobury Mortimer
On what was quite a cold Sunday morning the Caribbean Golf Society held its 2nd Major of the 2013 season at the Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, for this time of year considering the bad winter we have had the course was in splendid condition and although it is not the longest of courses it was certainly a difficult test for the whole field.
Longest drive was taken by Vassel Brown with a massive drive up the hill and into a strong head wind on the par4 18th whole, well done to Vassel.
Nearest the pin was taken by Eric Queely on the day. It was a very short par 3 but when you factor in the wind and the 80 yard drop from the elevated tee it was no mean feat just to hit the green, so with that in mind a big shout must go to Eric for finding the right formula for this question.
Nearest the pin in two had to be shared between Barry Smith & Keith Salmon. The two could not determine who was the closest even with the aid of a tape measure. Because we give one trophy and one bottle of wine per winner we decided to toss a coin and let the winner pick the trophy or the wine! Barry won the coin toss and decided that Keith could have the trophy and he would take the grog, I think Keith was happy with this as was Barry who is obviously partial to a tipple!
Now down to the business end of the day. In third place was Dave Brown with 35 stableford points congratulations Dave for placing in the top three, no cut was applied to his handicap.
Second place went to El Capitan Elford Douglas with a stableford score of 38 points, congrats to you sir on a very decent round of golf. Elford was playing off of 17 and has now been cut to 16.4.
The winner with 39 stableford points playing off of a 15 handicap was Keith Salmon, congratulation Keith on your Major Victory that has seen you rise to the top of this year’s order of merit chart. As a result of this great knock Keith handicap has been cut to 13.3.
A special mention goes out to Alan Ferguson who just missed out on 3rd place with 34 stableford points and a shout must go out to our former secretary Denny Senior who also had a good round and nearly placed in the top three.
Finally warm thanks to our two guests on the day Charlie “nearly a member” McCook and Chris Barns who attended for the first time.
Thanks to the staff at Cleobury Mortimer for welcoming us back and for all your cooperation in making the day run smoothly.
The CGS tour will now be heading to Swindon Golf club for our third Major of the year on the 19th of May.
